Sonye — Privacy Policy

Sonye ("Sonye," "we," "us," or "our") runs a manually curated, recurring pickleball game-slot service for the Dallas, Texas area, available at sonye.app. Sonye is operated by an individual based in Texas, United States.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have. Sonye is intended only for adults aged 18 and older (see "Children's privacy"). By using Sonye, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the service:

  • Phone number. Your mobile number (in E.164 format) is your account identifier. We use it to text you one-time login codes and post-game attendance confirmations, and to let the organizer of a game you join coordinate that game. Your phone number is shown only to the organizer of a game you join — never to other players (see "How your information is shared").
  • Name. We collect your first and last name at sign-up. Other players see only your first name; your last name is not shown to other players.
  • Skill level. Self-reported, and shown to your group to help match games.
  • Gender (optional). You may provide this or skip it. When provided, it is used for matching and to set your avatar color. Skipping is always allowed and is never treated as an error.
  • Game activity. The games you join, leave, and whether you attended.
  • Lobby messages. Short messages and quick status taps (such as "I'm here" or "on my way") that you post to a game's lobby wall so your group can coordinate. They are visible to the other joined players and the organizer of that game.
  • Consent and messaging records. A timestamped record of when you agreed to receive text messages, and your messaging interactions with us — including opt-out ("STOP") and help ("HELP") requests.

We do not collect:

  • Payment or financial information — Sonye is free and processes no payments.
  • Precise or device location — we operate in the Dallas area but do not track or collect your location.
  • Email addresses from players — sign-in is by phone only.

How we use your information

We use the information above to:

  • Sign you in, by texting one-time login passcodes to your phone.
  • Send post-game attendance confirmations so you can tell us whether you played.
  • Let the organizer of a game you join coordinate that game.
  • Show your first name, skill level, and avatar to your group inside the app.
  • Let you post and read messages on a game's lobby wall.
  • Keep a record of lobby messages so that reports of harassment or abuse can be looked into and the community kept safe.
  • Operate the core service — letting you join or leave curated game slots.
  • Keep records of your consent and your opt-out choices.
  • Respond to your questions and support requests.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not profile you for marketing.

How your information is shared

We never sell your information, and we never share your mobile number or SMS opt-in data for marketing. We do not share or sell your mobile information, SMS opt-in data, or consent to any third parties or affiliates for marketing, promotional, or lead-generation purposes — not at any time. Text-message opt-in data and consent are shared only with the service providers that deliver our messages (described below), and never with anyone else.

Your phone number, specifically, is used only to send you login codes and attendance texts and to let the organizer of a game you join coordinate that game. It is shown only to that game's organizer, never to other players, and it is never shared or sold to third parties for marketing.

The limited sharing that does happen is as follows:

  • With service providers who run Sonye for us. A small number of trusted vendors process your information on our behalf, only to provide the service, and under confidentiality obligations. They may not use your information for their own marketing:
    • Supabase — authentication and secure database storage.
    • Twilio — delivery of our text messages (login codes and attendance confirmations).
    • Vercel — hosting of the Sonye website and app.
  • With the organizer of a game you join. When you join a game, that game's organizer (the person who curates it) can see your first name, skill level, and phone number, so they can coordinate the game. Organizers may use your phone number only to coordinate that game.
  • With other players in a game you join. Other joined players can see your first name, your skill level, and any messages you post to that game's lobby wall. They cannot see your phone number. Waitlisted players can see who is in a game, but cannot see phone numbers and cannot see or post to the lobby wall.
  • For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required to by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Sonye, our users, or others.

How long we keep your information

We keep your account information — your phone number, name, skill level, optional gender, game activity, and consent records — for as long as your account is active and until you ask us to delete it.

  • Login codes and attendance links are short-lived and single-use; they expire and are invalidated after they are used or after a short window.
  • Lobby messages stay on a game's wall while the game is live and for a short period after it ends; the wall is then hidden from view. We keep the messages after that as a record, so that a problem with a game can be looked into if one is reported.
  • Opt-out records are kept for as long as needed to keep honoring your opt-out and to meet legal requirements.

When you delete your account, we remove your personal information, including your lobby messages — except for records we are required to keep to comply with the law, or that we need to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim. You can ask us to delete your account at any time by contacting us (see "Contact us"), and we process verified deletion requests in accordance with applicable law.

Your choices

  • Opt out of texts. Reply STOP to any Sonye text to stop receiving messages. You will get one confirmation message, then no further texts. Reply HELP for help. Because Sonye signs you in by text, opting out means you will no longer receive login codes or attendance confirmations, which may prevent you from using the service.
  • Skip optional fields. Providing your gender is always optional.
  • Delete your data. Contact us to request deletion of your account and personal information.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and database access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

Sonye is intended only for adults aged 18 and older. We do not direct Sonye to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from someone under 18, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
